The name says it all. If you want to be able to see the volcano at all times during your visit to this area, how would you like to have the most active volcano in Costa Rica in your window? (It’s in every window at the lodge). The Arenal Observatory Lodge sits amid the forest on the side of the volcano where the lava flows are coming down the side of the cone, which you’ll be able to see in reasonably clear weather. Since it was originally built as a scientific research station, it is the only hotel and observatory right inside Arenal National Park – and this close to the Arenal Volcano. Rooms are decorated with local artisans’ work illustrating the area’s flora and fauna. Junior suites feature king size beds, a sitting room, and best of all – your own private viewing deck. Relaxing after long days of hiking and other activities is easy in the lodge’s spring-fed swimming pool and jacuzzi under the stars.
