Spot: Finca El Porvenir
Zone: Island, Volcano
Good Stuff:
Now this is off the beaten path. Not only are you on a volcanic island, but you are away from the town on the island that is already away from everything else! Well you still aren’t too far from the volcanoes. You can have your breakfast up on the thatched roof and take in the view of the active Concepción Volcano towering above. Finca, meaning farm, generally means something good is growing nearby, like avocados, coffee, bananas, pineapples, papayas, plantains and cashews (!) which you can savor for yourself. Finca El Porvenir is a place where peace and relaxation can be found at last. You can just lie in a hammock savoring the pace of farm life… Or if you’re up for it, discover the indigenous past in El Porvenir’s petroglyphs, go biking, horseback riding or hike up the volcano!
What we love: sipping coffee while seeing the sun rise over the top of the volcano.
Green Cred:
Locally owned preserved farm
- Protected petroglyphs help preserve indigenous culture
- It’s super low on energy conservation – there’s no internet, air conditioning or TV!
- Fresh from the farm produce, milk and meat supports the lodge owners and other local farmers
