Zone: Organic Shade Grown Coffee Plantation in the Central Valley
The Good Stuff:
These folks take green vacation seriously, with equal weight given to being innovatively green and relaxingly luxurious. The recently renovated boutique hotel is located only 15 minutes from the San Jose International Airport, above the Central Valley of Costa Rica. This is no airport hotel, though - the Inn offers views of volcanoes, cloud forests and coffee plantations. A lush ten acres with hundreds of fruit trees and tropical flora, as well as birds and butterflies, means you'll forget how close you are to the city.
Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation and Inn is a world class 13 room green luxury hotel on an organic shade grown coffee plantation. The recipient of numerous awards and accolades for its extraordinary quality and as a global leader in responsible tourism, Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation and Inn is perfect for discerning and knowledgeable travelers who want to combine luxury with certified sustainability.

The Master Suite is unmatched for romance.
Green Cred:
- Solar panels to heat water coupled with energy saving auxiliary on demand heating systems

Above and Beyond:
Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation and Inn, the first certified sustainable hotel in Costa Rica, has evolved over the last 20 years to become the highest ranking member of the prestigious Sustainable Tourism Certification program (CST) and the only hotel that has achieved a perfect score of 100%.
The CST, regarded as the strictest and most demanding program in the world for verifying the sustainability of hotels and tour operators, awards from one to five "green leaves" to those entities which participate in the program. As of 2009, there are approximately 130 hotels and 10 tour operators which are certified by the CST.
Five percent of the gross profit from the bar and restaurant sales at Finca Rosa Blanca go directly to projects for the local school in Barrio Jesus and to the Children's Food Bank and two new recycling centers.
Through this practice the hotel has built two classrooms for the educationally challenged, a new director's office, a new library and books, a new roof for the whole school, a computer room with 12 computers and a network server, and established a recycling program and awareness at the school which is still being implemented with great success.
Through the hotel's assistance, Jesús Elementary School and the community have won the Bandera Azul (Blue Flag) in 2006 with the highest standing in the province. The Blue Flag program is an environmental, social and community effort involving the entire community, including schools, municipal security, water and waste management, clinics, scouts, senior centers etc. to achieve the highest sustainable and environmental level.
